A Question of Performance

The implementation of a new IT infrastructure is often linked to high expectations and ambitious requirements. Even at minimum capacity, a smooth data transfer without delay, even at peak times, must be guaranteed, i.e. maximum performance combined with optimal resource management and, at the same time, cost savings.

Without an exact analysis of the current situation, the new IT infrastructure does not stand a chance of living up to these expectations. ppi Media has therefore enhanced its range of services to include a performance analysis. The results and ensuing recommendations will help you to plan your future hardware, control costs and increase performance.

ppi offers a performance analysis in two consecutive stages:

1.       System analysis

• In an up to 30-day analysis, the average use of resources such as CPU, RAM, I/O is measured on the current production server, as well as any peak values.

• To evaluate the utilization of resources, data produced with the ppi system is logged daily.

• The result of the system analysis is a recommendation for the resources of the virtual infrastructure based on the latest hardware.

2.       Peak analysis

• The additional use of enhanced tools such as VMware Capacity Planer, Quest Spotlight and ppi Media’s Advanced CSI Tool Set allows an exact evaluation of the entire production processes in the publisher's workflow.

• Data on the duration of different production processes is logged.

• Recommendations on changing the workflow, splitting processes or hardware in order to increase the efficiency of the production system are therefore based on exact values from the analysis.
